2nd edition of the festival - autumn 2024
The second edition of the festival, which took place from October 4-20, 2024, was titled "LAAF_Multiplicity Theory." Plurality theory is a branch of mathematics dealing with sets and the relationships between them. Mathematics is the basic expression of abstract thinking.
The festival is an attempt to search for the essence of abstract art. According to us, any type of non-figuration, such as geometric, expressive or syncretic abstraction, is a collection of commonalities. The viewer had the opportunity to notice what these collections have in common - abstractness.
The main festival center was located at the OFF PiotrkowskaCenter in Lodz at 138/140 Piotrkowska Street, where 4 exhibitions were presented:
The main exhibition "A ∩ B" - presenting works by 35 Polish and foreign artists
LAAF_OpenCall - showcasing the work of the 15 finalists and finalists in the competition
Collector's Gallery Abstraction - Collector's Gallery Exhibition
Sublimations 2 - Individual exhibition by Tamara Berdowska
In addition, there were organized:
6 accompanying exhibitions
25 accompanying events: concerts, performances, art workshops at the Coherent Studio, a tattoo pop-up organized in cooperation with the Love Studio, film screenings at Mediateka MEMO in Lodz, curator tours, author meetings.
A ∩ B - a formula derived from the mathematical theory of multiplicity, defining the common part of sets. The exhibition A ∩ B is a survey of works by male and female artists working in the broad spectrum of abstract art. Our goal is to illustrate both their individual approaches and to show on which spaces their work intersects.
The works on display are a collection of non-figurative, authorial worlds. Viewing them, however, we confront the fact that although they were created on the basis of abstract concepts, they function in our common, material reality.
The A ∩ B exhibition is the largest survey of the wealth of abstract art in Poland.
